BEYOND MY BODY
SHINING A LIGHT ON DISORDERED EATING.
Beyond my body documents the story of people who struggle or have struggled with an eating disorder and aims to demystify the stigma around a mental illness that, frequently in secret, affects 70 million people worldwide of any gender, age and ethnicity. The project reflects the full spectrum of disordered eating presentations through portraits of people who share their personal experience and speak about social shame, access to treatment and recovery. Formed by traditional and virtual portraits, this visual approach allows me to explore the many challenges of living with a commonly misunderstood illness that goes beyond body concerns and reveals the emotional battle underneath a painful but healing journey through the self.
